Arch-rival Georges Jobe, the two-times 250cc World Champion, emerged as a genuine title challenger. At the halfway point Thorpe's season was ruined by an arm-breaking crash that left him unable to mount a real defence of his world crown. It looked like Jobe would take the title unchallenged, but a new British challenger emerged - Kurt Nicoll. Featuring Jobe, Thorpe, Nicoll, Lungqvist, Martens and more! Nicoll won the opening race of the British Grand Prix in front of 35,000 fans and maintained his amazing form to take the fight to Belgium's Jobe. With just two rounds left, Nicoll had a slim shot at the championship, but his hopes were dashed by a race-ending crash in Luxembourg - allowing Jobe to take his first 500c World Championship with one round to spare.
