Or you can purchase an emanual / parts catalogue from us, and carry out the repair yourself. Once the vehicle is repaired, the Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) can be erased and the Check Engine light extinguished using this scan tool. In areas that require smog / emission tests, an illuminated Check Engine light fails the test, even if the vehicle might otherwise pass inspection. This OBD II Scan Tool gets rid of the Check Engine light. Remember, not all Diagnostic Trouble Codes illuminate the Check Engine light and a scan tool is the only way to obtain the information. Does this Code Scanner Work on my Car? This OBD2 Code Scanner is designed to work on all OBD2 compliant vehicles. It is required by Law in most countries that all 1996 and newer vehicles (cars and light trucks) sold around the world must be OBD2 compliant. Some 1994 and 1995 model year vehicles are also OBD2 compliant. To verify if your vehicle is OBD2 compliant or not, check the Vehicle Emissions Control Information Label which is usually located under the hood or by the radiator. If the vehicle is OBD2 compliant, the label will state "OBD II Certified". Besides, all OBD2 compliant vehicles must have a 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) which is usually located under the instrument panel of the vehicle. Where is the Connector Located? The connector must be located within three feet of the driver and must not require any tools to be revealed. Look under the dash and behind ashtrays. A worldwide law was passed stating that all car manufacturers had to open their cars to be allowed to be used with universal tools. This was introduced so car manufacturers could not trap customers and force them to pay extortoinate fees to work on their vehicles. Unfortunately, as far as we know, not all car manufacturers are playing ball and still do not allow universal tools - this is illegal.
